After a long wait, Senior Men’s baseball has made its return to Port Elgin (Saugeen Shores) as part of the Midwestern Ontario Senior Baseball League (MOSBL).

The Midwestern Ontario Senior Baseball League is a men’s (19+) baseball league located in Midwestern Ontario, with roots going back to 2005, originally known as the Thames Valley Senior Baseball League. Since 2017, it has been operating under the MOSBL name. Teams involved include Junior (22u) and Senior age groups according to Baseball Ontario rules.

The teams in the MOSBL come from ten towns across seven counties in Mid-Western Ontario, stretching from London in the south to Kitchener in the east and now reaching north to Port Elgin. Recently, the MOSBL members voted to accept the Port Elgin White Sox into their Senior Division for the 2026 Season during their AGM held in Mitchell.

This application was evaluated by senior clubs within the MOSBL at their AGM on November 30th and received unanimous approval. The Port Elgin team is set to kick off its 2026 season with a game scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday, May 31st at Lamont Sports Park in Port Elgin.

For decades, Port Elgin has played a significant role in the local baseball scene, especially with minor leagues. Now, thanks to the new Lamont Sports Park facility’s completion, Saugeen Shores is re-establishing itself as a hub for minor ball, slo-pitch, and now senior men’s baseball.

The newly formed Port Elgin White Sox will face teams from London, Woodstock, Lucan, Mitchell, Listowel and Kincardine. President Connor Yourth shares that “We have just started and the support we have had from local businesses with sponsorships as well as local photography and even live video streams has been incredible. We play 16 games and luckily for our first year we have 10 at the premium Lamont facility; some of the teams from London are traveling here for our first year for doubleheaders.”

Sponsors so far include

KNK, Three Sheets Brewing, GOAT Sport Supply, Rootes Gas Bar, Tuggy’s Gas and Variety, The Club at Westlinks, Saugeen Golf Club, Elgin Jewellers, Chuck’s Roadhouse, Rosina’s, Truly Nolan, Kurt Doonan Services , Local Boys Hat Co., Home Away from Home , Mill Creek Chocolates

Tomorrow on Sunday May 31st , the Port Elgin White Sox will take on the London Talons with game time set for noon (12:00 p. m.) at Lamont Sports Park.

Summer Schedule

“We are looking forward to bringing baseball back to Saugeen Shores and hope that our community will come out in support,” adds Yourth. “Even though our opener was canceled due to weather and rescheduled for tomorrow morning , we still had about 50 -60 fans show up.”

“Our roster features a mix of young talent along with seasoned veterans. We’ve got plenty of local homegrown talent like young pitchers Raine Gibbons and Cam Clarmo alongside veterans Chris Inkster and Brian Maas. Almost every player has previously played minor baseball here with the Sting.”

Yourth further explains that they chose the name Port Elgin White Sox after an earlier team that played in Grey Bruce baseball league between 1994 – 99 , founded by Mike Kelly and Rick Dwinell. “From that original team , Johnny Campbell remains as the only active player. He got our first hit and scored our very first run during our opener …and they say you can’t be romantic about baseball!”
