Pickering Councillor Lisa Robinson has been penalized eight times now for violating the code of conduct.

It’s now eight sanctions for the often controversial Lisa Robinson, as she faced a pay cut of 90 days this week due to yet another violation of the city’s code of conduct. This time, it was for accepting over $13,000 in donations from a Gifts Send Go crowd sourcing campaign.

A month ago, Robinson was in the chambers receiving her seventh sanction for appearing on a podcast that was posted publicly on You Tube more than a year ago, where the host “exhorted the public to commit acts of violence” against council members.

This latest penalty stemmed from her fundraising efforts aimed at recovering some of her salary penalties – with Monday’s 90-day pay cut, she has now lost nearly $80,000 in salary – and the amount raised significantly surpassed the allowable limit.

This also marks the second occasion she’s been sanctioned for fundraising that broke city rules.

Robinson repeatedly demanded proof from Integrity Commissioner Jeff Abrams of Principles Integrity regarding whether she benefited from the fund but did not deny keeping any money.

“Show me the bank transfer,” she shouted at Abrams, which led Mayor Kevin Ashe to inquire if she denied receiving any funds. “There is no evidence I received a single dollar of this money,” she replied.

After it was pointed out that the Gift Send Go account linked directly to Robinson’s website, Ward 1 councillor launched an attack against Ashe and other council members’ characters during her speaking time. She labeled Ashe as “evil” and made allegations of unverified corruption against him.

“I have proof, but I won’t submit it to you or the Integrity Commissioner,” she stated while accusing both individuals of “working together” against her. “While I am sanctioned for imaginary gifts real instances of ethics go unnoticed.”

Councillor Linda Cook took issue with Robinson’s accusations, emphasizing that her outburst constituted another violation of the code of conduct. Cook also mentioned that he had responded “in an appropriate manner” to his colleague’s past motions but asserted he would never align himself with Councillor Robinson because that would imply he condones her behavior and accepts how she treats this council, the public, and community – which he does not.

The motion to impose a 90-day financial penalty on Robinson passed unanimously.
