In 2025, the City of Peterborough finished several important infrastructure projects, such as rebuilding Brealey Drive, enhancing the intersections at George and Hilliard streets, and upgrading lighting along the Rotary Greenway Trail link.
In East City, work was completed on a new signalized crossing, along with sidewalk and pavement upgrades on the Rotary Greenway Trail where it crosses Hunter Street to boost accessibility.
The city also resurfaced 3.6 kilometres of roads in downtown.

1. Renovation and Expansion of Peterborough Police Station
Total commitment for 2026: $23.5 million ($12 million in 2027, $23.4 million in 2028)
Renovations currently happening at both locations-1421 Lansdowne St. W. and the existing headquarters at 500 Water St.-include energy-efficient updates as part of a multi-phase project addressing long-term space needs for the police service. “This investment ensures that the Peterborough Police Service has safe, modern and functional facilities to support effective policing and meet the needs of a growing community now and into the future,” a statement from the city says regarding this expansion initiative. The funding comes from development charges and “other city resources,” with funds committed over three years ahead.2. Lansdowne Street West – From Spillsbury Drive to Clonsilla Avenue
Total commitment for 2026: $9.1 million (pre-committed in 2024), plus an additional $2.9 million pre-committed for 2027
This major project aims to modernize Lansdowne Street West while enhancing traffic flow, safety, and options for active transportation as outlined in the city’s transportation master plan. The plan includes building a center turn lane, improving intersections at Spillsbury Drive/Kawartha Heights Boulevard and Clonsilla Avenue, creating a new signalized mid-block crossing, and adding multi-use trails on both sides of the street to facilitate walking and cycling. “The project is being delivered in phases. Phase 1 included enhancements at Clonsilla Avenue intersection completed in 2023; Phase 2 involving property acquisition and utility relocations is ongoing through both years; construction’s final phase is expected to start in late-2026,” according to a city statement.3. Effluent Disinfection Revitalization & Expansion
