Provincial police are looking into a deadly multi-vehicle crash that occurred on Highway 8 near Hamilton this morning.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt reported that emergency teams arrived at the scene around 5:30 a. m.

The accident involved a tractor trailer and two cars, with one vehicle catching fire.

Schmidt mentioned that one individual was declared dead at the scene, while another was transported to the hospital with injuries that aren’t life-threatening.

Highway 8 was shut down for several hours between Orkney Road and Highway 52 close to Rockton.

Schmidt encouraged anyone who witnessed the incident or has information to reach out to the OPP.

“It was dark and still foggy, a bit misty at times,” he stated in a social media post.

“We are looking into road conditions, weather conditions, driver condition.”

This report by The Canadian Press was first March 31, 2026.
