Officers from the OPP have taken three people into custody after a drug trafficking investigation led by the Peterborough/Northumberland Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU).

In May 2026, the CSCU, with help from the Peterborough Police Service Drug Unit, started looking into illegal drug trafficking in both Peterborough County and Northumberland County.

During this investigation, law enforcement identified several locations in Toronto and Curve Lake that were suspected of being involved in the distribution of illegal drugs.

On July 27, 2026, police arrested one individual in Toronto. At that time, they found the person with a significant amount of Canadian currency.

Following this, Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) search warrants were executed at two residences around Toronto. Officers managed to seize about:

610 grams of suspected fentanyl 415 grams of suspected cocaine 19,450 opioid tablets Approximately $52,000 in Canadian currency Drug trafficking equipment

On July 29, 2026, members of the Peterborough/Northumberland CSCU conducted CDSA search warrants at two homes in Curve Lake with support from the Anishinabek Police Service and their Canine Unit (K9). During these searches, officers confiscated around:

320 grams of suspected fentanyl Approximately $15,000 in Canadian currency

The total value of these seizures is estimated to be over $231,000. Along with cash, police also seized a vehicle, a shotgun, mobile phones and drug trafficking gear.

As a result of this operation, Steven Swanson (45) from Scarborough faces charges including:

Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid (other than heroin) Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – other drugs – two counts Possession of proceeds obtained through crime over $5,000

Jeremy Coppaway (47) from Curve Lake has been charged with:

Veronica Coppaway (46) also from Curve Lake has been charged with:

All individuals are set to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice.
