An officer from the Peterborough OPP has charged a person with impaired driving following a traffic complaint on Highway 115.

On June 19, 2026 at about 9:45 p. m., an officer from the Peterborough County OPP was sent to investigate a report of a vehicle on Highway 115 that had its lights off. The caller described the vehicle and its direction of travel, mentioning that it seemed to be struggling to stay in its lane.

The officer found the vehicle and pulled it over. When approaching, the officer spoke to the driver and realized they were under the influence of alcohol. The officer requested an Approved Screening Device, and based on what it showed, the driver was arrested. They were then taken to the Peterborough County OPP detachment for further testing.

Ryley Blight (age 30) from Pontypool, ON., was arrested and charged with;

• Operation while impaired

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

• Drive without proper rear light

• Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available

• Driver fail to surrender licence

• Fail to surrender insurance card

The accused is set to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on July 21, 2026.

The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days, and their vehicle impounded for seven days.

Peterborough County OPP reminds drivers to plan ahead when consuming alcohol or drugs. Use a designated driver, take a cab, use public transit, or stay overnight. Even small amounts of alcohol or drugs can affect your ability to make good decisions.

Peterborough County OPP appreciates your help in creating safe communities. If you have information about suspected illegal activity, please visit Crime Stoppers at: stopcrimehere. ca or call 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
