Chief Ted Williams of Rama First Nation was present for the announcement (Supplied Photo) By Liam Casey Several Ontario First Nations are about to become part owners of a new nuclear reactor after forming a commercial partnership with both the federal and provincial governments. Ottawa and Ontario are offering loan guarantees totaling $700 million to seven Williams Treaties First Nations located east of Toronto, which will convert into equity for one of the four small modular reactors being developed at the Darlington New Nuclear Project in Bowmanville, Ont., by Ontario Power Generation. Ontario Energy and Mines Minister Stephen Lecce mentioned that this marks the first equity partnership with First Nations in a nuclear reactor within Canada. He stated that this investment will lead to a minority ownership stake for the First Nations…
