Ottawa police have identified the father of two young boys found dead in a home on Monday as 40-year-old Mohammed Al-Lami.

On Thursday, police reported that Al-Lami was discovered deceased in the Kemptville, Ont., area and investigators suspect he was responsible for the deaths of the children, who were found at their residence on Mandevilla Crescent in Ottawa.

“We are supporting the boys’ mother as she grieves this unimaginable loss, and out of respect for her wishes and her family’s privacy, the names of her children will not be released publicly,” said the police force in an email to .

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) assisted with securing two additional locations believed to be linked to this case: a business fire in Iroquois, Ont., earlier that same day and a vehicle fire reported shortly after 5:30 a. m. at the Kemptville carpool lot near Highway 416 and Rideau River Road.

An adult male’s body was located inside the burned vehicle; he was identified as the children’s father.

During a press conference Monday afternoon, Ottawa police Supt. Jamie Dunlop stated investigators believe that the boys were siblings. “From the trauma and evidence I can clearly say it was a double homicide,” Dunlop remarked. “We believe it was a double homicide-suicide.”

Dunlop mentioned that investigators think the boys were found at their father’s home. He indicated that authorities also believe their father died by suicide but they are collaborating with OPP to clarify the timeline of events.

The Ottawa Police Service homicide unit has stated that their investigation is ongoing with several investigative and forensic examinations still pending.

“The Ottawa Police Service recognizes the community’s desire for answers and will provide further information when those processes have been completed,” said police officials.
