Oshawa book publisher Les Éditions Terre d’Accueil is receiving help from the province to take part in international events.
The publisher will get $7,500 through Ontario Creates, which is part of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Gaming.
“Our government recognizes the important role books play in fostering dynamic and thriving communities across Ontario,” said Lorne Coe, MPP Whitby, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Children, Community and Social Services Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence, and Security. “This support will help Les Éditions Terre d’Accueil continue to expand its reach internationally and showcase Ontario’s innovative book publishers on the global stage.”
“Durham is home to some of the most creative voices in the province – and our government is proud to help local publishers compete and share the best of what Ontario has to offer on the world stage,” said the Honourable Todd Mc Carthy, MPP for Durham. “This investment in Les Éditions Terre d’Accueil supports local talent, local stories, and a thriving economy right here in our community.”
Through the Global Market Development Fund – Book, eligible Ontario companies are awarded funding so they can take part in international activities that support company growth and produce measurable businesses and market development results. Activities that are supported include targeted sales trips and attending international market events.
The money will allow Les Éditions Terre d’Accueil to engage in a slate of international business and audience development activities including in-person, virtual and strategic components.
“Ontario’s innovative book publishing sector plays a vital role in supporting and elevating talented writers across a wide range of genres,” said Stan Cho, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming. “I’m pleased that Les Éditions Terre d’Accueil is receiving funding to do important work in Oshawa, nurturing homegrown talent and investing in programs that bring people together and share our stories.”
“We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Government of Ontario and Ontario Creates for awarding this grant, which will help strengthen the international reach of Franco-Ontarian publishing,” said Suzanne Kemenang, Directrice générale, Éditions Terre d’Accueil. “For Éditions Terre d’Accueil, the International Market Development Fund represents a natural continuation of our efforts to showcase the work of our authors on the global stage, particularly through participation in major literary events. These opportunities will enable us to expand our readership, build new audiences, and foster relationships with key stakeholders in the book industry, including booksellers and bookstores.”
