Ontario Tech University is set to build a new residence hall to accommodate its growing student population, with plans for it to be ready by 2028.

This upcoming project is part of a comprehensive, 30-year plan aimed at expanding the Oshawa campus, which includes additional academic facilities and infrastructure needed for the increasing number of students.

The new housing will be situated on the north side of Conlin Road and is currently in the planning phase. University officials are scheduled to share these plans with the media on Monday morning.

There will be opportunities for photos at the future construction site, followed by a formal announcement about the new residence and a reveal of architectural designs.

Dr. Steven Murphy, President of Ontario Tech, along with other senior leaders, will be joined by representatives from the province, City of Oshawa, Durham Region, and the Ontario Tech Student Union.

This new residence will “significantly expand” available student housing and support ongoing growth at the university. The school has seen a 5.3 percent rise in undergraduate applications compared to last year-more than double the provincial average-and an impressive 73 percent increase since 2021.

The residence is also an essential part of Ontario Tech’s campus expansion strategy, which anticipates as many as six new buildings in total.

The most recent addition to campus housing is the Athol Street Student Residence in Oshawa-a nine-story building featuring 185 suites equipped with modern amenities like gyms and kitchens.

Students also have other housing options available such as Simcoe Village (North/South/Central Halls), South Village, and West Village. These offer furnished apartments complete with full kitchens, internet access, and utilities included.
