A 39-year-old man from St. Thomas is now facing several weapons charges related to two reported targeted shootings in the area, including one that occurred early last month.
The suspect was taken into custody by Ontario Provincial Police on Thursday night after a lengthy standoff at a residence in Vienna, a small town situated north of Port Burwell in Elgin County.
The latest shooting took place around 6:40 p. m. on April 4, near Barrington Avenue and Granville Street, close to West Lions Park, according to police reports.
No injuries were reported, and a vehicle thought to be involved left the scene before officers arrived, as per police statements. Evidence indicating that a gun was fired was discovered at the site.
“Investigators believed this was not a random incident,” London police said in a statement.
The accused faces numerous charges, including discharging a firearm with intent to cause injury or prevent arrest, unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm, possessing either loaded or unloaded regulated firearms, and being inside a vehicle with a firearm.
Additionally, he has seven counts of possessing firearms or ammunition in violation of an order prohibiting such actions and knowingly possessing restricted or prohibited firearms without proper licensing.
Authorities are urging anyone who may have been nearby during the shooting or who might possess dash-cam or surveillance footage from that time to reach out.

At the time of his arrest, the suspect also had an active warrant out for his capture linked to another targeted shooting incident that took place in southeast London late last spring.
Officers responded to calls at approximately 2:25 a. m. on June 13, 2025 near Chelton and Emerald roads after someone reported hearing multiple gunshots.
According to police reports, both the garage door and vehicle belonging to one home on Emerald Road sustained damage from gunfire. Thankfully, no one was injured physically.
The accused now faces five firearm-related charges stemming from that event as well; these include discharging a firearm recklessly towards any location, unauthorized possession of prohibited firearms or weapons, along with violating prohibition orders regarding firearms or ammunition possession.
“Policing has no boundaries and this investigation demonstrates the strength of collaboration across agencies,” police said. “With the assistance of our policing partners, investigators were able to locate and arrest a dangerous suspect, ensuring the safety of our communities.”
