UPDATE: The driver of the passenger vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver was not injured.

A crash involving a dump truck and a passenger car that led to a fire has completely shut down part of the highway north of Oshawa on Friday morning, according to police.

Ontario Provincial Police mentioned that details about any injuries are still unclear following the two-vehicle collision, which took place around 7 a. m. on Highway 7 in Scugog, located about 25 kilometers from Oshawa and northeast of Toronto.

The section of Highway 7 is entirely closed between Line 12 and Line 14, south of Saintfield, as reported by police just before 7:30 a. m. Emergency crews were still attending to the accident at that time.

Authorities are advising drivers to steer clear of the area.
