With great sadness, the family of Ginny shares the news of her passing at TBRHSC, surrounded by her loved ones.
Ginny was born in Pickle Crow, Ontario, and grew up on Ruttan St. She attended Shuniah School and Lakeview High before graduating from Teachers College. This marked the start of a rewarding 40-year career in education. She was a valued teacher and spent her last years as the principal at Algonquin Public School.
After retiring, Ginny focused on her love for art alongside her partners Katie and Paula. She also looked forward to a “girls” trip with childhood friends Lois and Babs.
Ginny began her journey with Ronald forty years ago. Three decades back, she picked out their home, which had the white picket fence and balcony she always dreamed of. She carefully furnished and decorated it to make it just right. Her special touch shone during Christmas when passersby enjoyed seeing the three lighted red bells on the veranda each year.
Nature and animals brought Ginny happiness. Charlie always brightened her day with his visits or car rides. Fridays were dedicated to evenings out with friends (the Ronalds, Hardys, and Binettes), while Saturdays meant dinner at one of her favorite restaurants. In earlier times it was Uncle Frank’s with the Mills family; more recently it was weekly dinners with Ron and Judy. Sundays were reserved for family time.
Road trips in the Corvette with Ron were some of her favorites; one memorable adventure took them along the Mississippi River to Elvis’ family home in Tupelo, then onto New Orleans and Key West.
The Forbes family welcomed Ginny warmly, creating a special bond with its matriarch Madge. They shared many joyous celebrations at their neighboring camps at Chippewa.
Virginia arranged a trip to Ireland and Europe for Madge’s 90th birthday celebration. After visiting Portadown-the hometown of the Forbes family-they went to London to see Buckingham Palace and her cherished Westminster Abbey before heading to Edinburgh to honor their Fraser heritage; she always loved hearing bagpipes play.
Ginny is survived by her partner Ron Forbes; daughter Chantal Castonguay (Pascal); sister Judy Carroll; nieces Meghan Carroll (Shaun) and Alyson Carroll (Andy); great-nephew Thomas Carroll (Kaitlin) along with their children Kayden and Liam Carroll.
She was predeceased by parents Earl and Peggy Traer; grandparents Bill & Pearl Traer, Richard & Catherine Strawson; niece Erin Carroll; brother-in-law Butch Carroll; Sam, Madge, Aubrey Sarah Forbes; as well as Chantal’s father Teddie.
Muriel, Terry, Donna along with their families will miss her dearly-as will many friends, cousins, and extended relatives. The list goes on-Ginny was truly loved by so many.
Cremation has taken place, and there will be a gathering later for family to celebrate her life together.
