Vasilios was a caring husband, father, uncle, brother, and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife, Agathi, and daughter, Litsa. He is survived by his children Penny (Rudy) and Jim (Susan), along with his grandchildren Sébastien, Jenessa, Anna, and Billie, who carries on his name.

Vasili took pride in being Greek and moved to Canada with his family in the early 1970s like many before him. He worked as a galvanizer and foreman at the Metlen Steele Industry factory in Greece , where he was well-respected by both his employer and coworkers. Those were some of his most cherished memories.

Life in Canada had its challenges, but Vasili and his family were determined to create a new beginning together. They held onto their Greek traditions while also embracing the multicultural fabric of Canada.

Over time they welcomed many nieces and nephews who came to Canada for education. They were embraced into the Dedebilis family without hesitation. Some stayed on to marry and raise families here while others returned to Greece and kept connections alive.

Vasili and Agathi took great pride in their Greek roots and passed down the values and culture from their homeland to their children. At the same time, they appreciated Canada’s diversity that accepted them.

Their daughter Penny fell in love with Rudy, who immigrated from Chile with his family. They met as teenagers and became an essential part of each other’s lives. Soon after, Sebastian joined them as Vasili and Agathi happily embraced their roles as yiayia and papou.

Soon after that encounter, Jim met Sue along with her daughter Jenessa; they were welcomed into this lively Greek family without a second thought. In the following years came Anna and Vasiliki as well.

As it happens in many Greek tales, tragedy touched Vasilios’s life too deeply when his beloved daughter Litsa passed away unexpectedly at just 39 years old. His dear wife Agathi followed shortly after within that same year. He found comfort through spending time with his children and grandchildren while staying engaged in the Greek community.

His later years were spent at Hellenic Home where he made new friends while finding peace surrounded by family, community support, and honoring his Greek heritage. He actively participated in local church activities since faith played an important role throughout his life.

Some of Vasili’s favorite stories he often shared revolved around memories of Sofiko village or summers spent growing up near Korfos.

He loved swimming, music, dancing – but most importantly loved being with family who all returned that love tenfold. A life truly well lived.
