Wayne Mac Donald Whitfield, a loving husband to Shirley Jean (Van Rooyen) Whitfield, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at the age of 82.

He was predeceased by his beloved parents, Wilfred (1993) and Ellen (Mac Donald-1960). He was a caring father to Susan and her husband Matthew Simpson, Steven and his wife Natasha (Mullen), and David and his wife Stephanie (Szymkiewicz). His grandchildren, Chloe and Evan Simpson, Katia, Zara, Petra, Ivy, Molly and Max Whitfield brought him immense joy. He is also survived by in-laws June James (John-2010), Janet and Richard Bradley, Wendy Neff, and Cliff Velzy. Additionally, he will be fondly remembered by ‘adopted sons’ Maher and Ayman Daoud along with Ayman’s wife Rawan and their son Joud.

Born in Windsor, Wayne had a passion for travel that took him to many places around the globe while always returning ‘home’. He graduated from the University of Windsor and spent a year teaching high school before transitioning to a long career at Chrysler where he retired after 30 years in 2001.

Wayne was a true fighter who overcame cancer at the age of 41. When doctors had little hope but offered prayers instead, it was the Medical Team in London, ON along with his family’s support that helped him prevail! He actively volunteered with Central United Church as well as the Unemployed Help Centre. Like his father before him, he enjoyed gardening; his nurturing touch could be seen in every plant and flower he tended to.

Visitation will take place at Windsor chapel – Banwell Chapel (11677 Tecumseh Rd E) on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 from 10 am until noon. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, August 12 from 10 am until the service starts at 11 am. A procession to Victoria Memorial Gardens will follow.

If you wish to make memorial donations they would be appreciated for the Canadian Cancer Society or the Lion’s Club.
