DOHERTY, Marcia Francine (nee. Fields)
February 25, 1940 – May 13, 2026
It is with great sadness that we share the news of Marcia Francine Doherty (nee Fields), who passed away peacefully on May 13, 2026, at the age of 86, surrounded by her family. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend to many, Marcia leaves behind a trail of love and kindness that will be cherished by all who knew her.
Marcia was born on February 25th, 1940 to Marguerite (Platten) and Francis Fields in Niagara Falls, Ontario. She attended Loretto Academy and spent many summers with her grandparents Henry and Daisy Fields in Windsor, Ontario. Following her mother’s path, she graduated from nursing at Assumption College and began her career at Hotel Dieu hospital in Windsor. In 1966 at a Detroit Ski Club meeting, she met Dr. John Doherty and they married in 1971. Together they raised their family in South Walkerville for over four decades. A lifelong traveler, Marcia explored many corners of the world with friends and family by her side. Even after retiring, she kept her passport busy visiting distant destinations like Egypt, Costa Rica, Scotland, and Hawaii.
Marcia will be dearly missed by her husband of more than 54 years, Dr. John Doherty; her sons John (Nicole) and James Doherty; and grandchildren Madelyn and Jordyn Doherty. She is also survived by her sister Kathie De Fazio and will be fondly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews along with many close friends who hold her in their hearts with love. She was pre-deceased by her parents and brother David Brook Fields.
The family extends their gratitude to the staff at Windsor Regional Hospital’s Metropolitan campus for their compassionate care during Marcia’s final hours.
Visitation will take place on Saturday May 16th from 4-6pm and Sunday May 17th from 1-3pm at Windsor Chapel Funeral Home located at 1700 Tecumseh Rd. E. Following visitation on Sunday there will be a memorial service held from 3-4pm at the funeral home.
Marcia’s commitment to family, friends, and community serves as an inspiration to us all. Her warmth and unwavering love for those around her will always be remembered.
