After a tough year-long fight with cancer, Carlo (also known as “Tico”) Giacomo-Maria Andreoletti passed away on 11 March, 2026, at Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare in Windsor, Ontario (Canada) at the age of 73. He leaves behind his loved ones who cared deeply for him. Born in the beautiful Swiss Alps, he was the only son of the late Madeleine (née Fiaux) and Valter (also called “Carlo”) Andreoletti. At just three years old, he and his mother moved to the charming town of Morges (Vaud) by Lake Geneva where he lived until his late twenties. It was then that his “Boubie” won his heart and opened up a new adventure for him in Canada. That’s when English became his fourth language.

Carlo married Deborah Ann Cottreau (“Boubie”) twice: first in Switzerland, then again in Canada two years later. They had been happily married for nearly forty-six years at the time of his passing. With no siblings, Carlo now leaves behind his newly embraced family: brother-in-law Brian (Karen) Cottreau along with their children Michelle Cottreau (Jon Kettinger), Jaqueline Krause, Sean Cottreau and their grandchildren Lila Kettinger, Vivienne Krause, Adam Krause, Noah Cottreau and Benjamin Cottreau. Since Deborah’s immediate family lives nearby in Michigan, Carlo became very close to them.

In Switzerland, he leaves behind a cousin who shared many childhood memories with him at their grandparents’ home. François della Casa (Hedy) was like an older brother to him. His other last remaining relative is François’ sister Anne-Marie Hug.

Carlo’s passion for nature came from his grandfather William Fiaux, a knowledgeable Swiss forestry guard who patrolled the woods during WWII. William taught Carlo everything about wildlife. He loved walking through forests to spot and photograph animals ranging from bears to foxes to elk; feeding birds from his hand or watching them at feeders around the garden; foraging for mushrooms; fishing in streams or lakes or through ice; and tending to his garden. These were truly what brought him joy. He also enjoyed working closely with people from the Whitecap Dakota First Nation Reserve in Saskatchewan while learning all about their culture and ways of life. Perhaps one of his greatest achievements was helping build La Liberté-a solid wood replica of a sixteenth-century galley ship featuring two sails and thirty-six oars-which still sails today on Lac Léman (Lake of Geneva).

The family would like to express gratitude to Dr Gillett, Dr Freeman, Dr Nasser, Dr Hirmiz, Dr Kinnette and all nurse-practitioners involved with the Cancer Program at Windsor Regional Hospital’s Metropolitan Campus. A special thanks goes out to community nurse Cecilia Amoranto whose support went above and beyond what was expected. They also want to thank Rob Lavery, Larry Hassen, Eric Farries, Querino Gesuale and Derek Gifford-Carlo couldn’t have asked for better friends here in Canada. To his friends back in Switzerland: we’ll see you soon.

As per Carlo’s wishes, cremation has already taken place.

A Celebration of Life will be held privately at a later date.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Windsor Chapel Funeral Home – Banwell Chapel (11677 Tecumseh Rd E., 519-253-7235). Online condolences and treasured memories can be shared with the family.
