It is with great sadness that the family shares the news of Garfield Williams’ passing. He left us peacefully in his sleep on July 29, 2026, after a long illness at Moira Place Long Term Care in Tweed, Ontario. He was 84 years old.

Garfield, son of the late Fitz and Myrtle Williams, is survived by his wife of 64 years, Gwendolyn (Keller) Williams, along with their children Kimberly (Robert) Matchett, Timothy (Jean) Williams, and Kelly (Lucas) Mc Millan. He took pride in being a grandfather to Rebecca (Chris Weatherall), Eric, Jennifer, Samantha, Alexandra, and Abigail. He was also a loving great-grandfather to Avery, Freya, and Quinn.

His sister Dawn Monaghan and her family also survive him. Throughout his life, he was greatly influenced by the love and support from Ida Thomlinson, Audrey Gaylord, Inez Hayes and their families who were key figures in his upbringing. Their children were like siblings to him and remained an essential part of his extended family over the years.

Garfield was born in Timmins/South Porcupine, Ontario and spent his early childhood living near a gold mine until he turned eleven.

A talented mechanic by trade, Garfield started working for Bob Wood before launching his own successful business that served the communities of Tweed and Thomasburg.

He dedicated many years as an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion where he held various roles including President and Poppy Chairman.

Outside work and community involvement, Garfield had a passion for moose hunting. He always looked forward to trips up North with close friends John and Eldon along with other hunting companions. Those adventures were filled with camaraderie and unforgettable experiences that will be shared for many generations to come.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Moira Place Long-Term Care Home especially those in the Heritage Wing for their care and compassion. A special mention goes out to Dr. Andy Quinn for his attentive care throughout many years.

Garfield will be missed dearly by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

In place of flowers, donations can be made in Garfield’s name to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 428 in Tweed or any charity of your choice.

A memorial gathering will take place on Sunday August 16th 2026 from 1:00 p. m. to 4:00 p. m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 428 located in Tweed Ontario. Friends and family are welcome to join together to share stories and celebrate Garfield’s life.
