A wet Sunday in southern Ontario carries on overnight as a moisture-heavy system gradually moves through the area.

Some locations already received over 75 mm of rain by Sunday evening, with more expected. Watch out for pooling and localized flooding on roads.

Keep in mind, don’t attempt to drive through flooded roads. It’s tough to gauge how deep the water is until it’s too late.

CANADA’S AUGUST OUTLOOK: A big mid-month change is ahead

Sunday’s stormy weather even triggered a tornado warning for the Niagara Peninsula, with some reports of damage near Kemptville that may need further examination due to possible rotation.

By 6:00 p. m. Sunday, Bancroft recorded 77 mm of rain. Welland experienced 62 mm, Hamilton saw 41 mm, and Ottawa had received 27 mm.

We’ll continue to see waves of heavy rain moving across southern Ontario from west to east throughout the overnight hours late Sunday into early Monday.

Heavy rainfall will persist into Monday morning for parts of eastern Ontario, including around Ottawa and Kingston.

The National Capital Region is already soaked from its rainiest July on record, limiting how much more water the ground can soak up. Stay alert for standing water if you’re driving in this area.

A stretch of eastern Ontario might end up with rainfall totals ranging from 75-100+ mm by the time the precipitation clears out on Monday.

Stay tuned to The Weather Network for all updates regarding conditions across Ontario.
