David Alexander Bowman
We are heartbroken to share that David Alexander Bowman passed away on April 15, 2026, at the Ottawa General Hospital. He was born on July 16, 1941, in Kingston, Ontario. Dave was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend who devoted his life to his family and community.
Dave is survived by his beloved wife, Diane (nee Arkinstall), with whom he enjoyed 47 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they created a life full of love, laughter, and adventures that led to countless treasured moments. He was a dedicated father to Craig (Jodi) and Leslie (Peter), and he took pride in being a grandfather to Nicole (Mike), Matthew (Payton), Brooke (Ben), Hailey (Roberto), CJ (Cait) and Jenna (Corbin). His eight great-grandchildren brought him so much happiness. He was also a dear brother to Sandra Bowness and was predeceased by sisters Margaret Henry, Mary Gemmill, Heather Thompson and brother Ian Duncan. Dave will be fondly remembered by Murray, Vicki, Kai, and Cameron Arkinstall along with many nieces and nephews as well as the mother of his children, Donna Scott.
Dave was known for his integrity and dedication; he retired from a fulfilling career at Statistics Canada in 1999. His commitment went beyond work; in 1988 he proudly carried the Olympic torch for part of its journey – an act that truly showed his spirit.
He shared many joyful experiences with close friends Garth and Ginette Hansma while cruising or camping together-creating bonds that would last forever.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to Dr. M. Gaudet and Dr. M. Maltez for their kindness and professionalism during Dave’s illness.
A private graveside service has been held according to Dave’s wishes. For those who wish to remember him with a donation, contributions can be made to The Ottawa Hospital Foundation – Cancer Centre or any charity of your choice.
Even though he’s no longer here with us, Dave’s warm presence, steadfast love, and precious memories will stay alive in the hearts of everyone who knew him. He will be missed deeply but always remembered with affection.
