With heavy hearts, we share the unexpected passing of Kyle Edward Wallace Mustard at just 38 years old on Tuesday, July 28, 2026. This tragic loss has created a profound void for everyone who knew and loved him. We mourn the departure of an incredible person whose impact was felt by many and whose memory will stay with us always.
Kyle was a loving father, husband, son, brother, nephew, cousin, son-in-law, brother-in-law, and friend. He’ll be remembered for his kind heart, gentle spirit, unwavering support for others, and selfless nature. His genuine concern for those around him formed connections that will forever remain in the hearts of family and friends.
Kyle is preceded in death by his brother Ryan Mustard; his grandparents Wally and Pat Hook as well as Frank and Colette Mustard; and his aunt Shirley Mustard. He is survived by his two wonderful sons Leith and Arlo; his wife Hannah; their cats Denali and Snowdon; dogs Ellie and Ben; his parents Wendy and Kevin; sister Rachel; mother-in-law Anita; brother-in-law Dominic (Paige); great aunt Dorothy Whalen; uncles Ron Mustard (Maggie), Bill Hook (Laurie), Jean Riddell, Greg Mustard, Tom Hook (Doris), Vicki Barker (Jay); along with numerous cousins, their children, colleagues from various jobs including Parks Canada and Algonquin Park/Ontario Parks, plus countless friends worldwide.
Kyle grew up in Midland, Ontario where he spent his teenage years. He had a passion for travel that fueled his adventurous spirit to explore different places. This led him to study not only in Ontario but also in Nova Scotia where he received a BA with double majors in Environment Sustainability & Society as well as History from Dalhousie University. He studied abroad in England where he met Hannah while earning an MSc in Sustainability (Environment & Development) from The University of Leeds. During this time he even traveled to Tanzania to complete a thesis on the significance of play for children in developing areas worldwide during his Master’s studies. His university experience included trips across Europe with family members as well as friends-including adventures with Hannah who shared his love for exploration.
Kyle devoted himself to helping others through both outreach work and managerial roles throughout his career. He was committed to supporting staff members with empathy alongside strong leadership qualities. Many colleagues within Parks Canada or at Algonquin Park recognized him not only as an exceptional boss but also as a friend who offered guidance when needed.
Outside work hours nothing brought Kyle more happiness than spending time with Leith and Arlo-sharing outdoor adventures together while building Lego creations or cheering on teams like the Toronto Maple Leafs or Leeds United over ice cream outings! He also had an affinity for fast food which took him all over-from Mc Donald’s spots around the world including Colombia during their honeymoon-to various locations throughout Europe! Alongside this shared enthusiasm they even wove passages from Harry Potter into their wedding vows!
Kyle truly embodied hard work along with compassion-a loving individual willing always go above-and-beyond help those dear him! His respect nature environment animals showed commitment conserving resources sustainable practices ensuring future generations enjoy beauty our surroundings too! A fantastic sense humor coupled quick wit meant he’d often come up hilarious one-liners dad jokes could make anyone laugh groan alike! The warmth joy he radiated lives on through everyone fortunate enough have crossed paths! Though he’s no longer physically present here among us-the influence affection left behind continues resonate deeply all who’ve been touched by him!
Kyle-we hope wherever you are now-you’re enjoying cold beer together again Ryan! Until we meet once more-cheers we love you!
