James Ross Edwards
It is with heavy hearts that the family of James Edwards shares the news of his peaceful passing on June 16, 2026.
James, fondly called Jim, was a devoted husband to Ruth for an amazing 65 years. They started as high school sweethearts and built a life full of love, commitment, and unforgettable moments.
Jim was a caring father to George (Corin) and a proud Poppa to JJ (Emily) and Kerri (Mike). He enjoyed being Great Poppa to Connor, Briar, and Jordan.
He was also a supportive father to Sharon (Larry), and a beloved Poppa to Bailey (Ross) and Teagan (Linda). He looked forward to welcoming his great-grandson, Bryson.
Jim showed the same care as a father to Tanya (Ron), being a loving Poppa to Christie (Mike) and Cody (Emma). He eagerly anticipated the arrival of his fifth great-grandchild, Baby Baugh.
He was preceded in death by his dear son-in-law, Randall Boyle (Sharon).
Jim will be remembered with affection by his siblings-in-law Bruce (Marg) Dangerfield and George (Sharon) Dangerfield as well as nieces and nephews Nancy, Christy, Chris, and Joel. Many extended family members and friends were lucky enough to know him and love him.
Growing up in Barrie, Jim graduated from Barrie Central before attending U of T where he earned his degree in Chemical Engineering. His career began as an educator at North Collegiate and Eastview Collegiates. His passion for teaching led him into roles such as Vice Principal at Eastview before becoming Principal at North Collegiate and Innisdale Secondary School. Many staff members he worked alongside will fondly remember him along with countless students who walked through those high school halls.
A talented athlete, you could often find Jim playing hockey at the arena or hitting home runs out of the park at Queen’s Park! Occasionally-and sometimes hesitantly-he tried keeping pace with Ruth on the tennis courts too!
A true snowbird at heart, Jim spent 25 winters with Ruth in Florida at Maple Leaf Golf and Country Club. There they enjoyed an active lifestyle surrounded by many good friends. Later in life, Jim embraced his creative side through bird carving classes while also singing in the choir. Music brought him joy.
Most importantly though, Jim will be remembered as a dedicated family man who always prioritized the needs of Ruth and their children. The immense love expressed by his wife, kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids speaks volumes about how much he cared for them all.
The visitation will be held at Legacy Funeral Home located at 55 Cedar Pointe Drive in Barrie (Parking available on Hwy 400 side of building) on Saturday July 4th, 2026 starting from 1 p. m. until the Service in the Chapel begins at 2:30 p. m., followed by a reception. Everyone is welcome to attend any or all parts!
