With great sadness, we share the news of Greg Cox’s passing at the age of 80 in Thunder Bay, Ontario on July 23, 2026. He left us peacefully, surrounded by his Loving Family.
Greg was born in Kenora, Ontario. He was predeceased by his parents George Frederick Cox and Jean Hannah Montgomery, as well as his brother Llywelyn (Louis).
He had a lengthy career with CN Rail and retired as a Conductor after dedicating 35 years to the company. In his youth, Greg enjoyed rowing with the Kenora Rowing Club and excelled as a basketball player for the Kenora-Keewatin District High School team.
Growing up, he shared many adventures with his friend Pete; they built their own pontoon boat and snow machine while sometimes getting into mischief.
Greg was a good man who inspired many around him. His actions demonstrated integrity and a strong work ethic. He always saw potential in both his family and everyone he encountered.
One of Greg’s proudest achievements was creating his cherished camp. He spent countless years there with his wife Margot, crafting their own paradise together. He formed strong connections with other families nearby, enjoying meaningful conversations and camaraderie.
In his free time, you could catch him taking long walks, chatting with neighbors, felling trees he deemed suspicious, splitting logs with his favorite tractor, or bringing firewood into their home. The family pets were dear to him; while working in the yard you’d often see one of them following him around or receiving a hearty scratch behind the ears.
He held a deep love for Canada and nature. Whether fishing or simply being on the water, he found joy in those moments shared with family.
Greg was always ready to help neighbors out or lend an ear to anyone seeking practical advice about life.
As an inventor at heart, Greg had a reputation for building almost anything that came to mind. He spent hours researching solar power solutions, welding techniques, carpentry skills, tractors mechanics-often seen sketching new ideas at the kitchen table. He took immense pride in his children’s accomplishments throughout their lives.
He was a devoted husband for 49 years to Margot (Marbs), who stood by him as a loving caregiver through thick and thin over the years.
He is survived by his Wife Margot Cox (Dennison); His Children Simon Cox (Grandchildren; Kaedyn and Tyler), Elaine Jones (Grandchildren; Zoe and Phoenix), Carrie Cox (Eric Dagenais) (Grandchildren; Aidan, Justin, Matthew, Breanna), Arley Cox (Robbie Riddell).
The family extends its gratitude to the staff at Thunder Bay Regional Hospital and St. Joseph’s Care Group-especially Dr Teixeira, Dr Migay along with Sherri , Dana , and all of the wonderful nurses on the hospice floor.
A private gathering for family will be held later on; no public service is planned. Instead of flowers , donations in memory of Greg can be made to Salvation Army

As we move forward , every day will feel like three tractor days ……. and that’s all you can ask for.
