Eva Campbell, who was 96 years old and lived at Southbridge Roseview (previously Chartwell Isabella and Rankin St), passed away peacefully at home on June 6, 2026, surrounded by her family.
Born in Coniston, Ontario to Clara and Lloyd Paul, Eva enjoyed playing the piano, skating, working at summer church camp, and being part of the Young People’s youth group in Sudbury.
At just 18 years old, Eva left home to train telephone operators for the Bell Telephone company in Fort William. It was there that she met Ken Campbell on a double-blind date; he would become the love of her life.
Together they raised six children. Later on, Eva returned to work in retail and then attended Confederation College where she received the President’s medal for her studies as a nurse’s aide (PSW). Caring for others came naturally to her. Family always came first. She was a lifelong member of First Church United (First Wesley) and remembered her hymns and verses right until her last days.
Eva had an active social life! Morning coffee with neighbors often took place at our house since she always had a baby to put down for a nap and laundry to hang out. The “Bell Girls” knitting club along with her ladies card club met for about 50-60 years; those beautiful friendships still thrive today.
She loved sharing with friends and neighbors through knitting, sewing, and baking. Attending symphonies as well as dancing and singing were some of her favorite pastimes. For fifteen years, Ken and Eva spent their winters in Panama City Beach, Florida. Their memorable adventures included a road trip along the west coast with their Boler trailer and a trip to Ireland.
Summers were filled with time spent at their camp on Lake Shebandowan where they hosted family gatherings enjoying card games with kids & grandkids, saunas, fishing trips, gardening activities, and sing-alongs around bonfires. Mom loved to sing along with her biological family as well as with her own kids whenever Ken picked up his guitar… ready to strike up a tune anywhere at any time.
She is survived by six children: Don (Brenda – Christy, Andrew, Kate, Heather, Paul & Allie), Barb (Ron Mocha – Dave & Diana), Dianne (Tom Potts – Jennifer & Trevor), Jeff (Kathy – Jodi, Ryan, Erin, Evan & Ian), Scott (Daniela – Matt & Eric), Lorraine (Randy Budner – Daniel & Stephen) along with 23 great-grandchildren and counting! Also surviving is her dear sister Carol (Billy Bartraw). Eva was predeceased by her loving husband of 67 years Ken Campbell along with her parents five brothers and one sister.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone who brought joy into Eva’s life while helping her tackle health challenges in recent years including the staff members and volunteers at Roseview as well as Isabella. Special thanks go out especially to Kathe Jan Janette Effie whom she shared many meals with.
In line with Eva’s wishes there will not be a funeral service held. Cremation has taken place; interment will occur privately among family later on. Friends wishing to make donations can do so towards any cause they choose.
