The Halton Regional Police Service has launched an investigation into the theft of specialized millwright and aerospace equipment from a local aerospace company after the business reported missing tools and equipment in early June.

Officers from the 2 District Risk Mitigation Team believe that the stolen items were later advertised for sale on social media platforms.

Authorities identified an employee of the company as a suspect and executed a search warrant at a home in Brantford on June 30.

During this search, officers found around $250,000 worth of specialized millwright and aerospace gear, along with over $150,000 in Canadian cash.

They also seized several luxury designer watches and sunglasses, which they suspect were bought using money obtained from the alleged theft.

Abhishek Kumar Patel, 30, from Brantford, faces charges including theft over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 for trafficking purposes.

He is currently held in custody while awaiting a bail hearing in Milton.

Police indicated that their investigation is still active as they work with the Oakville aerospace company to identify more stolen items and assess if further charges are needed.

Halton police urge businesses to report any suspected employee theft since internal theft can greatly affect employers financially.

Anyone with details about this case is encouraged to reach out to the Halton Regional Police Service’s 2 District Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-825-4777 ext. 2216 or share information anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
