A teenage boy has been arrested following an alleged armed home invasion attempt, vehicle fire, and police chase in the Hawkesbury early Saturday morning.

Emergency services were alerted to a property on Bocks Road, Oakville, around 2am on April 4th, after reports that a group drove a ute onto the property, smashed windows, and set the vehicle on fire.

The ute, which was later confirmed to have been stolen from Riverstone, was extinguished by Fire and Rescue NSW crews.

Police claim the situation escalated to a serious threat against residents, with a firearm allegedly brandished during the encounter. The occupants of the home, a man and woman both in their 50s, were left shaken but unharmed.

Pursuit Through The Gables

Upon arrival, officers from Hawkesbury Police Area Command saw several individuals fleeing the scene while another allegedly sped away in a second vehicle.

Police started a pursuit, with the driver reportedly hitting speeds of up to 120km/h in a 50km/h zone before stopping on Fontana Drive in The Gables. The driver then fled on foot.

A coordinated search operation was launched involving Pol Air, the Dog Unit, Raptor Squad, and officers from The Hills Police Area Command.

A 17-year-old boy was apprehended shortly after and taken to Windsor Police Station.

Serious Charges Laid

The teenager now faces seven charges including:

Special aggravated break and enter with intent (armed with a dangerous weapon)Possession of a shortened firearm without authority Possession of a loaded firearm endangering life Police pursuit – failing to stop and driving dangerously Being carried in a stolen vehicle Driving without a licence Driving a vehicle taken without the owner’s consent

He has been denied bail and is set to appear before a children’s court on Sunday, April 5th.

Ongoing Investigation

Police have established a crime scene at the Oakville property as investigations continue into others believed to have been involved at the scene.

Authorities are urging anyone with information or CCTV/dashcam footage to reach out to Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000

A Concerning Escalation

While stolen vehicles and police pursuits aren’t new to the north-west growth corridor, this incident marks an alarming escalation introducing alleged violence, arson, and firearms into what is usually a quiet semi-rural community in Hawkesbury.

Residents across Oakville and surrounding areas are reminded to stay alert and report any suspicious activity.

Broader Service Gaps

A serious overnight incident in Oakville has reignited calls for increased police and emergency service resources across Hawkesbury as well as Sydney’s north-west growth corridor.

.

The alleged attempted home invasion involving arson threats using firearms has left many residents uneasy while also raising broader questions about whether local services can keep up with rapid population growth occurring within these communities.

This area includes suburbs such as Oakville where housing developments expand increasingly towards traditionally semi-rural zones.

<p“However,” community leaders argue “investment in frontline services hasn’t kept pace.”

This demonstrates how stretched local resources can become when serious incidents arise despite prompt responses given by officers from Hawkesbury Police Area Command alongside specialist units like Pol Air/Dog Unit during Saturday’s event.

Increasing Presence Instead Of Just Response”

The issue goes beyond just professionalism amongst law enforcement personnel said local stakeholders who stress its more so about availability regarding necessary resources.”    Calls continue increasing for key measures including:

  • Increased police numbers throughout Hawkesbury
  • Greater visibility overnight patrols especially within growing areas.
  • Faster response times covering expanding suburbs overall.
  • Long-term planning aligning infrastructure efficiently alongside population growth!
