A man has died in Windsor after being shot by police following an alleged confrontation with another individual on Friday night.
The Special Investigations Unit reports that Windsor police were dispatched to Thornberry Crescent and Roseville Garden Drive at around 6:30 p. m. regarding a report of a man wielding a knife during an altercation.
Upon arrival, officers discovered an injured individual while the suspect with the knife had fled the scene.
The SIU states that officers located the man with the knife and used an energy weapon – commonly referred to as a Taser or stun gun – before firing their weapons at him.
The man was transported to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The SIU has assigned four investigators along with two forensic specialists to look into this case, and an autopsy is set for Sunday.
