An 8-year-old girl has lost her life due to injuries sustained when a vehicle hit her in Oakville, Ont. A 47-year-old man is facing charges, according to police.
An eight-year-old girl is dead and her mother is hospitalized after being struck by an SUV in Oakville on Thursday afternoon.
Emergency services arrived at North Service Road West, west of Dorval Drive, just before 4 p. m. following the collision.
Halton police reported that a 47-year-old man was driving an SUV on North Service Road when, for reasons yet to be determined, he veered off the road and hit a 39-year-old woman along with her eight-year-old daughter.
Initially, police stated that the girl was seven years old.
Both pedestrians were taken to the hospital and later moved to a trauma center; unfortunately, the child was declared dead shortly thereafter.

There’s no update yet on the mother’s condition.
The driver stayed at the scene and has since been charged with dangerous operation of a conveyance causing death.
“With regards to our Collision Reconstruction Unit, there are various different things they’re going to be looking at: speed of the vehicle, direction of travel, where the collision took place, things of that nature. So that’ll form part of the investigation that is currently ongoing,” Const. Jeffery Dillon said.
