One of Oakville’s largest summer events is making a return this week as the Oakville Family Ribfest gets ready to welcome thousands of guests for a three-day festival filled with food, music, and community spirit.

The event takes place from June 26 to 28 at the Sheridan College Oakville campus located on Trafalgar Road, continuing its legacy as one of the biggest outdoor happenings in town and attracting visitors from the broader Halton and GTA areas.

Put together by the Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar and the Oakville Lions Club, Ribfest brings together food vendors, live entertainment, rides, a marketplace, and activities for families. Organizers highlight its importance as both a celebration of community and a significant fundraiser for local charities.

Admission costs $7, while children eight and under can enter for free. Free parking will also be available on site.

Festival hours are Friday from 4 p. m. to 11 p. m., Saturday from 11 a. m. to 11 p. m., and Sunday from 11 a. m. to 7 p. m.

Each year, this event attracts large crowds to the Sheridan College grounds, with organizers noting that the expanded paved area allows for more vendors, more entertainment options, and additional family-friendly activities.

This year’s festival features eight rib teams competing on the “Wall of Ribs,” including Camp 31, Route 55, Gator BBQ, Bubba Lou’s BBQ, Jack the Ribber, Crazy Canuck Smokers, Brick Yard BBQ and Texas Jack’s BBQ. Guests will also have the chance to vote for their favorite ribs throughout the weekend.

In addition to barbecue options, attendees can enjoy various foods such as poutine, funnel cakes, blooming onions, corn on the cob, hot dogs, ice cream, lemonade and other popular treats.

The midway run by Astro Amusements will feature rides and attractions while Kids Zone offers family-oriented activities. A marketplace showcasing local vendors will also be part of this exciting weekend lineup.

Live music will fill the air during the festival with performances including cover bands as well as original acts and cultural shows that enhance the entertainment offerings.

New this year is a Fast Pass option which allows guests to skip food lines while providing access to a reserved dining tent along with complimentary beverages. Part of Fast Pass proceeds will benefit local charitable causes.

Organizers mention that Ribfest remains one of Oakville’s key community events that helps fund numerous local non-profit organizations through profits generated by both the festival itself and related fundraising efforts throughout the year.

The event usually draws in thousands of people each year and is seen as an essential part of summer in town; it combines fun entertainment with community fundraising efforts supported by volunteers.

As anticipation builds up leading into this year’s festivities organizers are focused on enhancing experiences while keeping true to its long-standing commitment towards community connection and charitable contributions.
