A man from Brantford is now facing several charges after the Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) looked into the theft of specialized gear from an aerospace firm in Oakville.

The inquiry started in early June when the company reported that specialized millwright and aerospace tools had gone missing.

The HRPS 2 District Risk Mitigation Team took charge of the case and, while collaborating with the business, identified a staff member as the suspect. Investigators believe that the stolen items were later put up for sale on social media.

On Tuesday, June 30th, officers carried out a search warrant at a home in Brantford, leading to the suspect’s arrest.

During this search, investigators found around $250,000 worth of stolen millwright and aerospace tools, along with over $150,000 in Canadian cash. Police also confiscated several expensive designer watches and sunglasses thought to be linked to criminal activity.

Following the investigation, 30-year-old Abhishek Kumar Patel has been charged with:

Theft over $5,000 Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 for the purpose of trafficking

Patel was held in custody while awaiting a bail hearing in Milton.

Authorities say that this investigation is still active as officers continue to work with the affected business to find more stolen items and decide if any additional charges are necessary.

Anyone with information about this case is encouraged to reach out to the 2 District Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-825-4777 ext. 2216.

Tips can also be shared anonymously with Crime Stoppers. “See something? Hear something? Know something? Contact Crime Stoppers” at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or online.
