A man from Toronto, accused of horrific attacks on children in public parks across southern Ontario during the 1990s, has consistently denied the allegations against him and claims that police have made a mistake in arresting him.
“It’s not my DNA,” Richard Neil testified at his trial in Brampton. “It’s not me.”
Crown prosecutors argue that DNA evidence connects Neil to crime scenes in Kitchener, Brampton, and Oakville, long after the “woodland attacker” case left investigators puzzled.
Two boys aged eight and ten, along with a 15-year-old girl, reported being lured into wooded areas where they were restrained and sexually assaulted by a stranger. The victims claimed they were forced to drink the assailant’s urine during these incidents which took place between 1992 and 1995.
The jury learned that Neil was only arrested in March 2024 after forensic genetic genealogy identified him as a suspect. Prosecutors stated that additional laboratory analysis showed it’s “20 quadrillion times more likely” that the DNA found at the crime scenes belonged to Neil rather than some random individual.

Warning: Story contains details of sexual assaults against children | After 31 years since a teenage girl was attacked in an Oakville park, jurors were presented with underwear used as a mask by the assailant. A forensic scientist testified that DNA found on this underwear matched Richard Neil, who is currently on trial for multiple sexual assaults against children dating back to the 1990s.
“I’m not a scientist,” he said from the witness stand at Ontario Superior Court of Justice on Tuesday according to an audio recording reviewed by .
“All I can say is it was not me. I had nothing to do with it.”
Neil, who is now 67 years old, has pleaded not guilty to all 17 charges including kidnapping, sexual assault causing bodily harm and administering a stupefying drug.
Assistant Crown attorney Monica Mac Kenzie argued it would be an “impossible coincidence” for various pieces of evidence – including fingerprints – to link Neil directly to the three assaults.
The jury had previously heard how Neil’s fingerprints were discovered on two shopping bags and a two-litre pop bottle found at Wildwood Park in Oakville where one victim was attacked in August 1995.
An ‘interest in urine’
During cross-examination, Mac Kenzie focused on what she described as Neil’s “interest in urine.”
Neil admitted he developed a urine-drinking “fetish” around 2012 but insisted “it’s actually quite common.”
“Anytime I’ve engaged in that act,” he said, “it’s been with consenting male adults only.”
The court heard that Neil immigrated from Britain with his family when he was young. He grew up in Kitchener where one boy was assaulted at Idlewood Park back in August 1992. At that time, it was mentioned that Neil lived nearby in Waterloo.
He spent most of his career driving for companies like Canada Post, UPS, and Bell around Toronto.</P
Mac Kenzie highlighted how Neil happened to be unemployed when both initial attacks occurred – first in Kitchener during 1992 followed by another incident at Norton Place Park in Brampton during September 1994. Other than minor traffic violations involving cars mentioned earlier indicated Neils sole past experience interacting law enforcement stemmed age nineteen being held briefly together fellow male buddy “for about two hours max” related drinking offence while no charges pressed taking fingerprints afterward according statements made before.
Additionally jurors learned recorded interviews conducted contemporaneously regarding three victims wouldn’t require them testifying again during current trial stage prosecution defense agreed crimes occurred matching descriptions given previously submitted accounts provided those kids initially reported events accurately enough without dispute raised later affecting credibility surrounding respective statements offered today since then.
