A 78-year-old woman has died following a crash in Oakville on Thursday evening, according to provincial police.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene of a two-vehicle collision near the westbound lanes of Highway 403 and Dundas Street E. around 9:30 p. m., as reported by Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) on social media platform X.
An SUV was stranded in a live lane of the highway and was hit by an approaching tractor-trailer, stated Sgt. Kerry Schmidt in a post on X.
Inside the SUV were two people: the 78-year-old driver and a 67-year-old female passenger. Schmidt mentioned that the driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while the passenger was taken to hospital with injuries that aren’t life-threatening.
The tractor-trailer driver wasn’t hurt in the incident, he added.
Westbound lanes of Highway 403 at Dundas Street E. were temporarily closed but reopened Friday morning.
Schmidt encouraged anyone who witnessed the crash or saw the broken-down vehicle on the highway to reach out to Burlington OPP.
