A 14-year-old boy from Scarborough is facing several charges related to violent home invasions in Halton Region, with police confirming that he was already on a release order when the alleged crimes occurred.

The arrest took place on June 9 by the Halton Regional Police Service, following an investigation into two connected incidents that happened on April 22 involving home invasions in Burlington and an attempted break-in in Oakville.

Authorities report that these events happened during the early morning hours and involved a group of masked individuals targeting homes.

In one incident, investigators say five males broke into a house in Burlington after shattering a glass panel on the front door and reaching inside to unlock it. Once they were inside, there was a confrontation with the residents. Police reported that one occupant was hit in the head with an object and needed medical assistance. Fortunately, no property was stolen.

Earlier that same morning, another attempted break-in occurred at a home in Oakville, where suspects were seen kicking at the front door and using a hammer to try to get inside. The residents called 911, prompting the suspects to flee before law enforcement arrived.

Investigators later found out that the same group was behind both incidents.

Police confirmed that the 14-year-old suspect has been charged with robbery, break and enter with intent, two counts of disguise with intent, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and failing to comply with a release order.

He is being held in custody while awaiting a bail hearing in Milton.

Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, his identity cannot be disclosed.

Authorities state that the investigation is still ongoing as they search for additional suspects who are still at large.

Anyone with information is encouraged to reach out to the 3 District Criminal Investigations Bureau or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously.
