A weather system is making its way through Mississauga on Saturday, May 23, bringing with it periods of rain and the chance of gusty winds. Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) predicts that Southern Ontario will see between 30 to 50 mm of rain on Saturday due to a low-pressure system in the area. The rain started early Saturday morning and is expected to continue overnight into Sunday morning. There’s a possibility of riverine flooding because of the amount of rainfall expected. Higher water levels could make local streams and rivers hazardous, particularly near culverts, bridges, and dams. It’s advised that everyone, especially children and pets, stay clear of all watercourses. Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) has issued a Watershed Conditions Statement for a Flood Outlook, which will remain in effect until Monday, May 25, 2026, or until further notice.
Driving and outdoor safety
Wet weather can lead to unsafe driving conditions. Residents are reminded to: Allow extra time for travel, slow down, and keep additional space between vehicles. Drive based on road and weather conditions. Avoid driving through flooded areas or standing water. Turn around if lanes are impassable.
