A memorial service for Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer who lost his life in the line of duty in northern Ontario last week is planned for Thursday in Mississauga.
The ceremony honoring Const. Tarun Bali, aged 29 and originally from Brampton, will take place at 10:30 a. m. at the Mississauga Sports and Entertainment Centre located at 5500 Rose Cherry Pl.
This visitation and funeral service is reserved for Bali’s family, guests, OPP members, police and emergency services personnel, military representatives, and dignitaries; it will not be open to the general public.
There will be a specific area designated for the public to view the funeral procession, along with options to watch the service through a livestream. The OPP will share more details as they become available.

A condolence book is also accessible in the lobby of OPP detachments in Orangeville and Primrose (Shelburne). Community members are encouraged to visit these locations at 390 C Line and 506312 ON-89 from 8 a. m. to 4 p. m. “Our heartfelt appreciation goes out to first responders and community members for the compassion and support demonstrated to the OPP during this difficult time,” stated the OPP in a news release on Sunday night. On June 9, around 12:30 p. m., officers from the OPP’s James Bay Detachment were trying to stop a vehicle in Hearst, Ont., approximately 950 kilometers north of Toronto when Bali was struck. He passed away at the scene according to provincial police officials. OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique informed reporters that an individual identified as Justin Veronneau, age 18 from Hearst, had fled from a hospital where he was being evaluated under the Mental Health Act prior to being intercepted by police. Bali served two and a half years with central Ontario’s Dufferin detachment based in Orangeville but was deployed with the James Bay Detachment at that time. Born in Naya Nangal, Punjab, India, Bali was proud to be Canadian; according to OPP he was described as a “dedicated, enthusiastic officer with a strong sense of community.” They noted that Bali spoke multiple languages including Punjabi, Hindi, and Urdu. He volunteered with Peel Region Victim Services and participated with Sur-Taal Heritage Organization. (He) was a valued and integral member of his team and the OPP.
