Authorities dealt with a line-cutter during a Pokémon card release at a Costco in Mississauga early Friday morning.
Customers had reportedly lined up overnight for the newest Pokémon cards at the Costco located at 3180 Laird Rd., close to Winston Churchill Boulevard and Dundas Street.
Social media posts indicated that new card releases were expected at several Costco locations on Friday.
“Ascended Heroes Mini Tin 5-Packs are expected to drop at select Costco Canada locations on FRIDAY, OCTOBER 9, 2026,” read one post.
The packs were anticipated to arrive at the Mississauga store on Laird Road and another location in Newmarket.
Police officers were called to the Mississauga site to manage the expected crowd.
“This morning at approximately 4:30 a. m., police were monitoring a lineup at a business in the area of Ridgeway Drive and Colonial Drive in Mississauga as part of a paid duty assignment,” stated a Peel Regional Police spokesperson to INSAUGA Canada.
An individual was reportedly trying to cut into the line.
“While monitoring the lineup, officers observed an individual repeatedly cutting in line,” said the spokesperson. “The individual was directed to leave the area and complied without further incident.”
A video shared on Reddit, titled “Costco Line Cutter vs Police for Pokemon Cards at South Mississauga,” shows an officer asking someone to leave.
The officer puts his hands on a male and says, “Get out of here.”
The person, dressed completely in black and wearing a mask, responds by saying he knows his rights.
Many people gathered outside the Costco observing this exchange. Some shouted “Hold the line.”
An additional voice said, “Please, I am begging you, don’t mess this up for everyone else.”
A brief confrontation occurred as the male pointed towards the officer but ultimately turned around and left.
Long lines for Pokémon cards have become common at Costco stores.
This spring saw chaos erupt at Heartland Town Centre during another Pokémon card drop. On April 11, large crowds surged into the Costco on Laird Drive and quickly filled shopping carts with boxes of cards once inside.
People often seek specific types of Pokémon cards. The rare ones are randomly placed within packs found inside these boxes that folks are queuing for. These rare cards can fetch thousands of dollars when sold.
