Three individuals, including a child, have been hospitalized following a multi-vehicle accident on the westbound lanes of Highway 403 in Mississauga, according to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

The incident was reported around 5 p. m. Tuesday, just west of Mavis Road, where two vehicles were involved in a crash. They both moved to the shoulder to exchange details outside their cars.

Shortly thereafter, a third vehicle struck one of the vehicles, causing it to push forward into two people-a 43-year-old man and a 12-year-old child-who were standing on the roadway.

Both were taken to a hospital in Hamilton with serious injuries. OPP confirmed that they are residents of the U. S.

A third person sustained minor injuries.

The driver of the third vehicle did not suffer any injuries.

The highway was closed between Mavis Road and Erin Mills Parkway for several hours but reopened just before 11 p. m.
