A 37-year-old man from Markham has been arrested following a York Regional Police investigation into a shooting that impacted two businesses in Vaughan earlier this year.
The incident took place on May 8, 2026, around 10:15 p. m., when police responded to reports of gunfire near Winges Road and Rowntree Dairy Road. Investigators discovered several bullet holes in two commercial properties. At the time, one of the businesses was occupied, but fortunately, no injuries were reported.
After a two-month investigation, the York Regional Police Firearms Investigations Team identified a suspect. On July 9, 2026, officers executed search warrants at one home in Markham and two homes in Toronto, leading to the arrest of the suspect and the seizure of a loaded firearm.
Harris Ahmed, aged 37 from Markham, faces charges for:
Discharging a firearm into or at a place in a reckless manner
Unauthorized possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm
Possession of a loaded restricted or prohibited firearm
Two counts of mischief to property over $5,000
