This past week, powerful thunderstorms moved through parts of southern Ontario, leading to the confirmation of two tornadoes.

The two tornadoes caused significant damage around London, Ont. during a severe thunderstorm event on Tuesday, May 19.

The situation triggered numerous severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings in the area, with strong winds knocking down trees and cutting power to tens of thousands of homes and businesses at one point.

<p. Teams from Western University’s Northern Tornadoes Project (NTP) have been assessing wind damage around the London area for several days.

The first confirmed tornado was rated EF-0 and struck close to the small community of Christina, located just over 20 km southwest of London.

A second confirmed tornado caused EF-1 damage along a path extending from Lambeth to Mossley, which included southern sections of London.
