The Northern Tornadoes Project has confirmed that an EF0 tornado touched down in Woodstock during the storm on Saturday.

This severe weather system triggered tornado alerts that lit up phones and mobile devices throughout the Waterloo Region.

An alert was sent out shortly after 4:00 p. m., warning of a storm system capable of producing a tornado heading toward Orr’s Lake and the Galt area of Cambridge. Reports about the intense storm began coming in around 3:00 p. m.

“Damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall are also possible,” stated the alert. “This is a very dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation.”

Officials from the Western University team reported that any damage observed so far has been minor, so they won’t be sending a survey team to assess conditions in Woodstock at this time.

A second tornado was also confirmed to have occurred in Lindsay, which has also been rated as an EF0.

No tornadoes were confirmed to have hit in Waterloo Region; however, there have been reports of tree and property damage across all seven municipalities.

In Kitchener, Bluesfest had to pause briefly, with pedestrians advised to seek shelter as strong winds and heavy rain soaked performers, vendors, and volunteers. The event resumed on Saturday evening under mostly clear skies.

City News Kitchener has reached out for further details regarding reports that train tracks near Riverside Park in Cambridge were affected by the storm. It’s alleged that damage to these tracks caused several cars to derail Sunday afternoon.
