Rollover Incident Shuts Down Hwy. 401 E. in Cambridge

A significant multi-vehicle crash on Highway 401 eastbound at the Highway 8 flyover in Cambridge has resulted in the closure of all eastbound lanes on Wednesday.

According to OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt’s update on X, three vehicles are involved, including a dump truck that overturned.

He mentioned that two individuals have been taken to the hospital; one with minor injuries and another in serious condition.

The OPP reported on X that cleanup efforts are expected to last until around 7:00 p. m.

CCTV footage from Ontario 511 indicates that traffic has come to a complete halt as of 4:45 p. m. due to this major collision on the eastbound side of the highway. Traffic is stopped both on the flyover exiting Highway 8 and along Highway 401 eastbound starting from the initial crash site.

Closure/Rollover: EB #Hwy401 closed at Hwy 8 in Cambridge. Three vehicles involved, two people sent to hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Expect heavy delays in the area, investigation is ongoing, clean up could take several hours. ^ks

Ontario 511 shows as of 3:20 p. m. that eastbound traffic is backed up as far south as Homer Watson Boulevard.

As of 3:25 p. m., westbound traffic on Highway 401 is experiencing moderate delays; however, the collision remains confined to the eastbound lanes across the median.
