Joyce graduated from teachers college just a year after finishing high school in Wellington, Ontario. She began her long teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse in Coryville before moving to another one-room schoolhouse in Deseronto. Later, she transitioned to a much larger school in Kingston where she enjoyed a distinguished teaching career. Shortly after arriving in Kingston, she met and married the charming Anthony (Tony) O’Shea. Their marriage continued until Tony’s passing in 2002. Joyce actively participated in The Eastern Star, Retired Teachers of Ontario Eastern Region, The Friday Lunch Group, was an accomplished bowler, and like her mother was a strong advocate for women’s education. Special thanks go to Dr. Stephanie Baxter at Hotel Dieu Hospital for Ophthalmology and the medical staff at Kingston General Hospital.
