A victim was sent to the hospital with serious injuries after an alleged sexual assault took place in the parking lot of a local golf course.

A significant police presence was noted in the parking lot at Amherstview Golf Club around noon on Sunday, Jun. 7, 2026. When Kingstonist asked about the investigation the next day, Sergeant Erin Cranton from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) East Region stated, “An incident has been reported and is being investigated; further details will be released as they become available.”

On Wednesday, Jun. 10, 2026, Cranton provided additional details about the incident, confirming that authorities were looking into a sexual assault occurring “in a parking lot in the Amherstview area.” Kingstonist sought confirmation that this referred to the golf course’s parking lot; OPP confirmed this on Friday, Jun. 12, 2026.

According to police reports, officers from the Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the OPP responded to a report of sexual assault on Sunday morning.

“The victim and the accused had prior contact before the incident,” Cranton told Kingstonist via email.

“The victim sustained serious injuries and attended hospital for treatment.”

The OPP later clarified that the assault reportedly occurred around midnight on June 7, 2026. Police did not reveal specifics about the victim’s injuries.

As a result of their investigation, OPP charged Eric Barlow, a 24-year-old from Loyalist Township with:

Aggravated sexual assault Sexual assault causing bodily harm – choke, suffocate or strangle Sexual assault causing bodily harm

Barlow was released from custody following a bail hearing, according to police reports.

The OPP’s investigation into this matter is ongoing; anyone with information is encouraged to reach out to Lennox and Addington OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Those wishing to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at ontariocrimestoppers. ca.

UPDATE (Friday, Jun. 12, 2026):
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have confirmed that the sexual assault allegedly occurring in an Amherstview parking lot took place during nighttime hours.

Initially reporting that their officers from Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment responded to this reported sexual assault “on the morning of” Sunday, Jun. 7, 2026., Kingstonist sought clarification regarding when exactly it happened.

“I can confirm that this occurred in a parking lot at the Amherstview Golf [Club] around midnight,” said Sergeant Erin Cranton, Media Relations Coordinator for OPP East Region while confirming where this reported incident happened.

Editor’s note: The original article above this update has been revised to provide clearer context regarding when and where this violent sexual assault reportedly took place.
