A former Kingston Police sergeant has admitted to assaulting a fellow officer at a party in 2024.
Jason Alblas was initially charged with one count of sexual assault following an investigation by Durham Regional Police.
During a court appearance in Napanee, Ont., on Tuesday, Alblas pleaded not guilty to that charge but accepted responsibility for assault instead.
The court learned that Alblas, who resigned from the force in May, was the supervisor of the complainant.
The complainant, whose identity is protected by a court-ordered publication ban, had a professional relationship with Alblas before the incident, according to an agreed statement of facts read by assistant Crown attorney Siobhain Wetscher.
Both Alblas and the complainant were at a celebration at a cottage in Napanee in August 2024 when the assault took place, as discussed in court.
Attendees were drinking alcohol throughout the day, and later on, Alblas sat next to the complainant around a bonfire.
They chatted about various topics until Alblas made an inappropriate comment regarding her breasts.
Latter on, when the complainant went inside the cottage to use the washroom, Alblas followed her into the garage and started “touching her without her consent and in a sexual manner,” as stated in court records.
<p At one point, when she saw another colleague outside the garage door and called out for help, that's when Alblas stopped his actions, Wetscher reported from the facts presented.
After using the washroom, she locked herself inside her car. The court heard that when Alblas came out of the cottage he knocked on her car window and pulled at her door handle while she hid under a blanket.

‘A very fragmented memory’
“Due to the amount of alcohol he consumed, Mr. Alblas has a very fragmented memory of what transpired,” Wetscher said. His lapses included following her to the cottage, entering into the garage and approaching her vehicle. “Mr. Alblas does however accept and take responsibility for the facts as laid out,” she added. Kingston Police previously stated that Alblas had been suspended without pay after he was charged in February 2025. An email from CBC received on Tuesday confirmed through a spokesperson for Kingston Police that Alblas is no longer with them but did not provide any further details. An archived snapshot of their association’s website shows that around when he was charged; he was listed as their vice-president. He’s scheduled for sentencing on Aug. 13.Source link
