A 54-year-old man, according to Hamilton police in a news release, suffered “life-altering injuries” when an SUV collided with a bus shelter.
This incident took place just after 4:30 p. m. on King Street West and Dundurn Street North in the west end of the city on Thursday afternoon.
Hamilton police report that a Ford Edge SUV was exiting the Tim Hortons plaza onto King Street West when it lost control and hit the man, who was inside the bus shelter waiting for his ride.
The police have not provided details on what led to the driver losing control.
The Hamilton Paramedic Service stated that one male was transported to a trauma center in critical condition, while a woman was taken to a local hospital where she is in stable condition.
This bus shelter serves both local transit and Go Transit users.
It’s located at one of the busiest intersections in the city. A 2020 Annual Collision report indicated that between 2016 and 2020, it had the highest rate of fatal and injury-causing collisions.
The Collision Reconstruction Unit is currently looking into the accident. Investigators mention that all potential causes are being evaluated.
Authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has dash camera footage from around that time, or surveillance video from nearby homes or businesses, to reach out to the Collision Reconstruction Unit.
