A 16-year-old is facing several charges while four other teens have also been taken into custody after a stolen car fled from law enforcement and crashed into another vehicle on Highway 401 this past Friday night, just west of the Greater Toronto Area.

The teens involved are from Hamilton and Mississauga, as reported by the Ontario Provincial Police. They responded to a call about the stolen vehicle shortly before 9 p. m. at a highway service centre on westbound Highway 401 in Puslinch, which is located west of Milton and south of Guelph.

Shortly after officers from the OPP’s Mississauga detachment arrived, the stolen car left the service centre and collided with another vehicle on the highway.

Three people in that car were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, according to a police news release.

Authorities subsequently arrested five individuals.

A 16-year-old from Hamilton has been charged with:

Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 Operation of a vehicle causing bodily harm Failure to stop after an accident Flight from peace officer Class G1 licence holder – unaccompanied by qualified driver (three counts) Disobey sign Fail to signal stop

Additionally, four other 16-year-olds from Hamilton, Dundas (Hamilton), and Mississauga have each been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, police noted.

The accused are set to appear in court in Guelph on July 8.

The identities of those charged are protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The investigation is ongoing.

If anyone has information regarding this case, they’re asked to contact Mississauga OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.

The province’s Special Investigations Unit is also looking into the incident. This civilian oversight agency investigates situations where members of the public are injured or killed during incidents involving police officers.
