Authorities are on the lookout for two suspects following the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old man in downtown Hamilton on Thursday night.

Officers arrived at 191 Main West after receiving reports of gunfire just before 6:30 p. m. They found a man with gunshot wounds. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but was pronounced dead shortly after.

The deceased has been identified as Talon Williams-Parkin.

“Investigators believe an exchange of gunfire occurred inside the unit within the building. During the incident, the victim was struck, and evidence suggests the suspect may also have been injured,” said Det. Staff Sgt. Michael Lever

Lever noted that police are also looking into a separate report of an injured person nearby around the same time to determine if both incidents are linked.

It appears that Williams-Parkin was visiting someone at that location, and authorities believe there were at least three people present in the unit during the shooting.

Police described the first male suspect as short with long dreadlocks and a chubby face, while they described the second male suspect as tall with dreadlocks who wore a blue face mask. Both suspects fled on foot after the incident.

“There was evidence at the scene to suggest that one of the suspects may have been injured,” said Lever, adding that multiple shots were fired.

Investigators think this might have been a targeted attack and that there is likely some familiarity between Williams-Parkin and his assailants; however, they are still working to understand their exact relationship.

Officers say they responded to reports of gunfire at 191 Main West just before 6:30 p. m. Photo: City News.

The shooting occurred at City Housing Hamilton, recognized as the largest social housing provider in the area with over 7,000 units available.

“We recognize the impact on residents and the surrounding community during this difficult time. The safety and well-being of residents and staff is our primary focus. Supports will be available on-site for tenants, and resources are available to staff who may be affected,” stated a post from City of Hamilton late Thursday night.

“We understand recent events in downtown have caused distress for many. Hamilton is a strong and resilient city, and we stand together in support of one another.”
