President Donald Trump sent a stark warning to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Thursday, threatening a consequence “worse than anything that has ever happened to a Canadian politician” in light of the ongoing trade conflict.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated, “It is very good for Canadian Politicians like Prime Minister Carney to make President Donald J. Trump ‘the enemy,’ until their Economy collapses, then it will prove to be very bad for Politics – Worse than anything that has ever happened to a Canadian Politician. Just watch!”
This post was part of a series of messages from the president on Truth Social Thursday. Earlier, he blasted news outlets as “treasonous SCUM” for reporting issues with U. S. ammunition supplies.
Also on Thursday, Carney criticized US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick regarding comments made by the cabinet member last week, claiming Canada “walked away” after both nations had reached an agreement.
“Canada had the best trade deal in the world before we started,” Lutnick remarked after the negotiations fell through. “We negotiated and Canada was going to have the best trade deal in the world. And what happened was that Canada walked away – we had a deal, we shook hands, the president announced it, right? And everybody was positive. Canada made the decision for political purposes. They wanted to walk away. This is politics only.”
When asked about those remarks on Thursday, Carney responded: “I don’t think, with all respect, appointed unelected cabinet members in the United States are experts on Canadian politics.”
