A 40-year-old man from Toronto has passed away after a three-vehicle accident on the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) in Burlington on Sunday evening, as confirmed by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
The collision took place around 6:45 p. m. on the eastbound side of the QEW near Walkers Line. According to the OPP’s Highway Safety Division, it was believed that a medical emergency involving one of the drivers led to the crash.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene and rushed the man – who was alone in his vehicle – to a local hospital in critical condition. Sadly, he was later pronounced dead.
The other two vehicles involved did not have any injuries reported, and their occupants stayed at the scene to help with the investigation.
Police closed off parts of the highway and several ramps for about two hours to facilitate cleanup and investigate the collision.
While inquiries are still ongoing, authorities indicate that no charges are anticipated at this time.
If anyone has information or dashcam footage regarding this incident, they are encouraged to reach out to the Burlington OPP detachment.
