Ontario’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU) is looking into a crash in Burlington that left a 24-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy with serious injuries.

According to the police watchdog, early Tuesday morning, Halton Regional Police Service got two reports about home invasions – one in Oakville and another in Milton – which included details about the vehicle involved in both cases.

At around 4:20 a. m., an officer found the vehicle of interest near Appleby Line and Number 2 Side Road, as stated by the SIU in a news release. The officer then followed the vehicle heading north on Appleby Line.

Meanwhile, north of Number 4 Side Road on Appleby Line, police set up a tire deflation device, according to the SIU. Shortly after, near Appleby Line and Britannia Road, the vehicle crashed into a utility pole.

Five males from the vehicle were arrested and taken to hospital; two of them suffered serious injuries, reported the SIU.

The SIU investigates incidents involving serious injury or death related to police actions, as well as situations where police discharge firearms at individuals.

The SIU noted that three investigators, two forensic experts, and one collision reconstruction specialist have been assigned to this case.

If anyone has additional information, they are encouraged to reach out to the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529.
